Sandra Harvey:
Emma graduated in 1999 from Otago University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. While based in the UK she began her Pilates training with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) in 2003 and is an Internationally Certified Instructor.

She has worked in various rehabilitation settings and has a special interest in Immunology and Infectious Diseases.

Since starting her young family back in her native Nelson, she has directed her attention over to Pilates. She is focused on helping her Pilates clients improve function, regain optimum health, through to enhancing sports performance and remaining injury free.

Emma currently offers Beginners, Intermediate and Post Natal classes.
Helen obtained a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy at University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1988 and since
then has completed numerous post-graduate courses in musculo-skeletal therapy, sport injuries,
acupuncture, myofascial release , dry needling, clinical pilates and chronic pain management. She became a
certified PINC Cancer Rehabilitation therapist in 2009, a Bradcliff Certified Breathing therapist in 2010, a
Steel Cancer Rehabilitation therapist in 2011 and in 2013 qualified as a Lymphoedema Therapist through the
Australian Lymphology Association.

Helen has worked in private practice, hospitals and schools in South Africa and New Zealand. She founded
Activate Physiotherapy in 2007 and in 2013 relocated to new premises in Collingwood Street where she has
enjoyed being in close proximity to and collaboration with other medical specialists.

Helen has particular interests in post -operative rehabilitation and the management of anxiety and complex
pain and works extensively with patients recovering from cancer therapies. She is passionate about holistic
health care and the importance of exercise and breathing to maintain health throughout life.

Helen teaches small group pilates classes integrating stretching and mindfulness relaxation to encourage
patients to take time out for relaxation and restoration to focus the mind and balance the body.

She loves living in Nelson with her husband, four daughters and chocolate Labrador and embraces all the
wonderful things that this region offers
Kate Graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 1999, also gaining the Margaret Hartridge Prize for Research. She has worked in Private Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practice since 2000, in Wellington, London and Nelson. In 2009 Kate went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine from Otago University.

Kate worked sideline for the Wellington Shakers Netball team in the National Bank Cup competition and the Wainuiomata Rugby League team in the Barter Card Cup. Most recently she worked sideline with the Nelson College Boys Rugby teams.
Sports Injuries in particular shoulder injuries are the area that Kate is most passionate about.

Kate is a mother to 3 children under six and enjoys walking, running and gardening

I am the part time receptionist at Activate Phyiotherapy. I have been married to my husband Bruce for 39 years. We shifted to Nelson from the Hutt Valley 21 years ago and it was thie best move we have ever made. We have two married daughters,our eldest lives in Auckland with our three gorgeous grandchildren, aged 6 moths, 2 years and 3 years.Our second daughter lives here in Nelson with our two darling grandsons aged 7 and 4. We feel very blessed having the boys so closed and enjoy being invoved in their lives.

I have recenly purchased an ergonomic  old fashioned style bike so I am loving learning to ride again after 30 yeara walking. I am thoroughly enjoying our wonderful cycle ways. We also have tow dogs, Wallace and Teddy and a can Bella.- we adore our wee animal family.

I feel very forntunate to be working with Helen and our part physiotherapists Kate, Gabirelle and Lara. I  love meeting all our wonderful patients and supporting them on their physio journey.

Lara graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in 2015. During her time in Dunedin, Lara worked alongside various sports teams in both Rugby and Football codes. Lara spent much of 2015 at both Activate Physiotherapy and Nelson Hospital.

Lara is passionate about health, fitness and well-being and promoting this in the wider community. She enjoys spending time making the most of the wonderful outdoor opportunities that the Nelson region has to offer.
